From the very first painting I ever created I chose to use this symbol for a couple of reasons. The first is aesthetics -- a signature takes up a lot of space, and for some compositions this could be distracting. The other reason for using a symbol is, well When I first began painting I was very angry and depressed at losing my eyesight.
The symbol stands for two eyes that are crossed out, and at the time it was a symbol of defiance. Quickly though, painting began to change how I felt, and the symbol became one of affirmation, a reminder that we can rise above our limitations. It looks like people are still collecting it though right now. The question then is; 'should people sell the plates for less than the price of the metal on them? Thanks for your input, I am just wondering I think some people don't think about platinum prices because I saw some of these pieces if not a lot are bought at eBay and other similar sites.
By the way are you somebody who collects, sells or are an authority on these type of collection? Hope to see more posts from you. This is an item that my mom had when my father passed away. I was going through her things and inquired on this site. The only question really since I do want to sell it is that she did not keep the box or certificate. You are welcome, for those who really want to collect that particular decorative piece they will not mind if it does not come in its original box nor concern themselves about the certificate.
However, collectors are different from each other, some would look for those. Once you post your offer to sell, just mention that yours does not come with the box and certificate. I run across a post about somebody selling a similar piece without the box and certificate and the link shows the bids offered for it.
